NEET UG exam pattern

SubjectQuestionsMarks
Physics45180
Chemistry45180
Biology (Botany 45 + Zoology 45)90360
Total180720 (3 hours)

Marking: +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer. Pen-and-paper (OMR) test conducted by NTA.

What changed in 2025: NTA removed the optional Section B. All 180 questions are compulsory, so papers from 2021–2024 (which had 200 questions with choice) should be practised as a 180-question attempt.

Always confirm the current pattern in the official information bulletin at neet.nta.nic.in.

Where NEET Biology marks sit

Biology is half the paper. Across the last ten years, Genetics and Evolution, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Cell Biology and Ecology together account for most Biology questions. Our weightage sheet gives the full ten-year distribution and flags the chapters where students lose marks to misreading rather than to concept gaps.

How to use NEET past papers well

  1. NCERT first, then past papers by chapter. NEET Biology tracks NCERT closely; after each chapter, solve every past NEET question on it.
  2. Full papers on the real clock. 180 questions in 180 minutes leaves one minute per question — practise the order you attempt subjects in.
  3. Read every wrong answer twice. In Biology, many errors are statement-reading errors, not knowledge gaps. Mark them separately.
  4. Repeat the error log. Re-attempt wrong questions after a week and again before the exam.

Which chapters carry the highest weightage in NEET Biology?

Genetics and Evolution, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Cell Biology and Ecology together account for most NEET Biology questions over the last ten years.
